Township dogs around South Africa often live hard lives due to poverty and ignorance. The average lifespan of these dogs is 3 to 4 years, and the mortality rate of puppies is very high as there are few primary veterinary care clinics available in these places.
Ten years ago Nicholas brought his much loved puppy named Tango to Funda Nenja for a check up and to get some advice on how best to care for him. At that time Funda Nenja was unable to assist with vaccinations or sterilisation so Nicholas took Tango to the local SPCA for treatment at his own expense.
When work allowed Nicholas would occasionally attend training classes, but we haven't see this devoted pair for several years so it was a wonderful surprise to spot them waiting in the queue for the clinic last Friday.
Tango (Top image) is now the remarkable age of 10 years which is a testament to the loving responsible care he has received from his human family. We salute you Nicholas and thank you for being an excellent role model in your community.
